Background
Thomas Leroyer, 35, of Vannes, France, has devoted over a decade to digital communications. His career path began in the traditional way, with a university technology diploma (DUT) in Marketing Techniques, followed by a professional degree in Digital Marketing and Online Commerce.
In the early years of his career, Thomas explored a variety of sectors, working for associations, companies, public bodies and cultural centers. His involvement was always focused on digital communication, mainly as a webmaster and web animator.
In 2024, having built up a wealth of experience, Thomas decided to take the next step by founding his own digital communications agency, Gayar Web, in homage to his five years' professional experience in La Réunion.
This move into entrepreneurship was a landmark decision for Thomas, enabling him to put into practice all the skills he had acquired over the years. Discovering Nocode and AI
Thomas Leroyer remembers his first encounter with Nocode "I remember hearing about Notion for the first time during my IT watch sessions, probably around 2021", he shares.
It was really towards the end of 2022 that the buzz around Nocode became hard for Thomas to ignore. As he deepened his research and technology watch, he began to understand the potentially revolutionary impact of this no-code approach to developing digital applications and solutions.
Curious to understand more about this emerging trend, Thomas signed up for the online training course offered by Alegria.academy at the end of 2023. The course offers him a valuable opportunity to explore Nocode and its implications for digital communication in greater depth. Through a variety of educational resources, hands-on workshops and coaching sessions, he was able to gain a deeper understanding of the tools and methodologies associated with Nocode!
He emphasizes the importance of the community that gravitates around this training, offering invaluable support and ongoing learning opportunities. "The exchange with other members of the community and the coaching sessions are essential elements of this experience! It allows us to learn from each other and solve the problems we face together," he explains.
Despite the challenges that online learning can present, Thomas is optimistic about his journey. His active participation in events organized by Alegria.academy testifies to his commitment to making the most of this learning opportunity, while exploring the many facets and applications of Nocode in his field of expertise.
How does he use it on a daily basis?
In his daily routine, Thomas makes extensive use of Nocode tools and AI to simplify his tasks and increase his efficiency. He explains: "For some time now, I've mainly been using Notion to take notes, manage my to-do lists and create documents. For me, it's a versatile tool that also facilitates the rapid creation of small applications or landing pages."
Thomas also appreciates the mobility offered by these tools, highlighting their adaptability on the move. "Having the app on my smartphone allows me to access and update my notes in real time, which is extremely handy when I'm on the move," he adds.
When it comes to AI, Thomas regularly uses ChatGPT to generate written content. "I feel like I'm not working alone with ChatGPT, it's sort of my collaborator!" he declares. He also mentions the use ofAirtable for relational databases, as well as practical exercises with Glide and Make, tools recommended in the online training he follows.
Out of curiosity and with a view to developing his skills, Thomas also plans to explore Webflow for website creation, an area that is particularly close to his heart. "It's a field that touches directly on my area of expertise, and I'm curious to find out how it works," he explains.
Finally, Thomas stresses the importance of human interaction in his learning of Nocode. "Meeting people involved in Nocode in Vannes like Coraline was very enriching. It gave me a better understanding of the opportunities offered by these tools, and enabled me to exchange ideas with other enthusiasts", he concludes.
Proud projects
Thomas Leroyer has accumulated a wide range of experience in the field of communications, covering different aspects such as website creation, content management, visual communication and even project facilitation in partnership with tourism organizations. He explains: "I've had the chance to work in various organizations, which has enabled me to explore different aspects of communications. At first, I focused mainly on website creation, but then I broadened my skills by investing in the Adobe suite for graphic design and video editing."
His most memorable experience was working with the Office de tourisme de l'Ouest when he was stationed in La Réunion. "Working for the tourist office allowed me to combine my digital skills with a more down-to-earth communications component. We organized workshops to help tourism providers improve their online presence, which included website creation and managing online reviews," he says.
As for his current projects, Thomas is proud of his creative use of Nocode tools, particularly in his job search. "I recently applied for a job as a digital communications manager. When the recruiters had trouble opening my CV, I quickly created an interactive CV with Glide, which solved the problem and enabled me to convey my information effectively!" he explains.
At the moment, Thomas is also working on a project to create an app for a music festival in collaboration with a local town hall. "I'm developing an application with Airtable and Glide for the town council's annual music festival. It's an exciting project that allows me to fully exploit the capabilities of Nocode tools," he adds enthusiastically.
Its cheat codes
First of all, Thomas stresses the importance of taking advantage of online content to learn and improve. He recommends taking advantage of available workshops, such as Notion Facile and Glide Facile "These workshops offer a week of intensive learning with informative videos and hands-on exercises, so it's easier to get up to speed quickly with Nocode tools."
What's more, Thomas encourages newcomers to join the communities that revolve around Nocode and get actively involved. He mentions the Nocode France Slack and, logically, the Alegria.group Discord, where members can exchange ideas, ask questions and access a wealth of valuable information. "Other people take the time to respond, and that too creates added value!"
Finally, Thomas stresses the importance of practical experience and involvement in concrete projects. Although he admits he hasn't had much time to devote to charitable projects, he highlights the Nocode for Good site as a useful resource for those looking to develop their skills while doing a good deed.
His advice for those who want to get started
First of all, Thomas encourages beginners not to hesitate. He points out that the Nocode tools are accessible and relatively intuitive, even for those with no in-depth technical training. He encourages them to overcome the fear and apprehension associated with the field of technology, because once you start using these tools, you quickly understand their full power and potential.
Secondly, Thomas emphasizes that Nocode offers the possibility of bringing any project to life, even for those without advanced development skills: "To succeed in Nocode you need motivation above all else. For me, Nocode and AI give us the ability to bring our ideas to life without investing astronomical sums!"
What next?
As a first step, Thomas aims to complete the online training provided by Alegria.academy. This step will enable him to deepen his skills in the field of Nocode and offer these solutions directly to his future customers. His main objective is to work with small and medium-sized businesses, craftsmen and associations, providing them with an effective digital presence, social network management and assistance in using digital tools to simplify their operations.
It's no coincidence that Thomas isn't aiming for the big companies - after years behind a desk, he places great importance on the human aspect in his professional interactions.
In the long term, Thomas is looking to expand his business and collaborate with other service providers. Although he remains open to different opportunities, he is convinced that digital technology will play a central role in his future activities.
